Sure, you can whip up a fancy casserole or an intensive eggs benedict any time. But sometimes, when the morning is just right, you want to go back to the old days; strolling into the local diner and ordering a stack of those fluffy, golden-brown Old-Fashioned Pancakes. Mmm, can't you just see it now? Topped with pats of butter and your favorite syrup, with the tender cakes just soaking up all that flavor? Good news! You can take that trip down memory lane anytime, since Old-Fashioned Pancakes are a breeze to make and ready in just 20 minutes. Turns out, nostalgia is delicious!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 egg
Directions
Step 1 -Sift the flour, the baking powder, the sugar, and the salt together in a large bowl.
Step 2 -Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the milk, the melted butter, and the egg.
Step 3 -Whisk all the ingredients together until relatively smooth, but a few lumps are welcome! Don't overmix the batter.
Step 4 -Lightly oil a griddle or a pan over medium-high heat.
Step 5 -Pour or scoop the batter onto the hot griddle, about 1/4 cup of the batter for each pancake.
Step 6 -Cook each pancake until golden-brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Wait until the middle begins to bubble and the edges appear dry and set before flipping the pancakes.
Step 7 -Repeat with the remaining batter.
Step 8 -Serve.
