Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus more, to taste, for greasing the baking sheet
- 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 large yellow onion, finely diced
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 24 dinner rolls, split
- 8 slices medium cheddar cheese
- 6 ounces medium cheddar, shredded
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Using the extra butter, grease the bottom of a rimmed baking sheet.
Step 3 -In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil.
Step 4 -Add the onions and cook until just translucent, about 2 minutes.
Step 5 -Add the ground beef to the onions and begin to break it up with a spatula.
Step 6 -Season the beef mixture with the salt, the pepper, and the garlic powder and cook, while crumbling the beef, until it is no longer pink, about 5-6 minutes.
Step 7 -Transfer the skillet from the heat
Step 8 -Drain the excess grease from the skillet.
Step 9 -Add the mayonnaise to the beef mixture and stir to combine.
Step 10 -Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking sheet.
Step 11 -Line the bottom half of the rolls with the cheddar cheese slices.
Step 12 -Spread the ground beef mixture evenly over the sliced cheese layer, squaring off the edges.
Step 13 -Cover the ground beef layer with the shredded cheddar.
Step 14 -Replace the tops of the buns cut-side down.
Step 15 -Brush the tops of the buns with the remaining 2 tablespoons of the melted butter and immediately sprinkle the tops with the sesame seeds.
Step 16 -Bake until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden-brown, about 12-15 minutes.
Step 17 -Serve.
