Ingredients
- 4 hoagie rolls, cut into 1-inch-thick cubes
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- kosher salt, to taste
- freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak, sliced into strips
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 12 slices provolone
- 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
- parsley, to taste, chopped, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
Step 3 -On a large rimmed baking sheet, add the hoagie roll cubes, the melted butter, and the garlic powder and gently toss to coat.
Step 4 -Bake the hoagie roll cubes until they are lightly golden, about 15 minutes.
Step 5 -In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of the oil.
Step 6 -Add the onions, the red bell peppers, the green bell peppers, the salt, and the black pepper to the heated oil and cook, stirring occasionally, until the veggies are soft, about 8 minutes.
Step 7 -Stir the garlic into the bell pepper mixture and cook until the garlic is fragrant, about 1 minute.
Step 8 -Pour the bell pepper mixture into a large bowl.
Step 9 -Return the skillet to medium-high heat and add the remaining oil.
Step 10 -Add the steak strips in a single layer to the heated oil and generously season them with the salt and the pepper.
Step 11 -Sear the seasoned steak strips until the bottoms are deeply golden, about 3 minutes.
Step 12 -Flip the steak strips and sear until the reverse sides are deeply golden, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 13 -Add the bell pepper mixture and the Worcestershire sauce to the steak strips and stir to combine. Transfer the skillet from the heat.
Step 14 -Evenly spread 1/2 of the toasted hoagie roll cubes into the prepared baking dish, then evenly top with 1/2 of the steak mixture.
Step 15 -Evenly lay 6 slices of the provolone over the steak mixture, then evenly top with the remaining hoagie roll cubes and the remaining steak mixture.
Step 16 -Evenly pour the broth over the steak bake and evenly lay the remaining provolone slices on top.
Step 17 -Bake the steak bake until the cheese is melty, about 15 minutes.
Step 18 -Serve the steak bake garnished with the parsley.
